Press release on Dec 17th, 2025
The world’s leading real-time sports analytics provider Wisesport introduces new AI-based services that give a digital head start to the current and new partner leagues and organizations in ten different countries worldwide. Using the latest technologies, Wisesport launches AI solutions for analytics, coaching, media, and betting services, revolutionizing the traditional ways of engaging fans and providing sports services.
The flagship of the Wisesport family, the Wisehockey platform for automated real-time ice hockey analytics, introduces AI technology to the daily operations of over 150 hockey clubs in ten different countries. Implemented in ten full ice hockey leagues, the Wisehockey platform is used in over 3,000 games a year.
“Our goal with this launch is to increase the benefits of AI technologies to our partners by a magnitude. They have already been using some of the AI-based Wisesport features. Artificial intelligence is a great way to scale up and improve the quality of our services.
Wisesport is not just the leading provider of real-time sports data. We also provide data processing, visualization, and turnkey solutions for TV production, real-time video clipping, and coaching tools. Now we have, for instance, developed an AI assistant that helps to prepare for upcoming games based on all game data over time. There are many new next-generation launches ahead,” summarizes Miska Kuusisto, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Wisesport.
AI brings depth to sports analytics
AI-based real-time analytics are the backbone of Wisesport’s AI portfolio. The fully automated analytics platform tracks players and the puck or ball, providing coordinate data for cloud-based real-time calculation of hundreds of metrics. Data is collected and processed using the same standard in every game at all venues. Statistics are used not only for coaching but also to enrich the viewing experience in arenas and at home via TV and mobile solutions.
One of Wisesport’s long-time partners is the German professional hockey league PENNY DEL.
“The game is becoming faster and more complex – this applies to international ice hockey as well as to the PENNY DEL. The better prepared you are for your opponent, the higher your chances of success. In addition to studying videos, preparation also includes analyzing the opponent’s game data. Data analysts are needed to process the data, draw the right conclusions, and support the coaches before and during the game. Data alone will certainly not make the game better, but in conjunction with the coaching team, it can make all the difference,“ says Björn Franz, Head of Communications at the German Hockey League PENNY DEL.
Wisesport has refined analytics models of more advanced statistics such as expected possession value (EPV) using machine learning and AI tools. This enables the use of more data points and factoring in more situation-specific details than any other models on the market. The process is fully automated, requiring no dedicated personnel on-site.
Taking coaching tools to the next level
Accurate, curated data plays an increasingly important role in sports coaching. Tracking player and team performance continuously throughout seasons and years gives coaches tools for developing strategies that work in changing circumstances.
Wisesport’s user-friendly AI-based coaching tools provide real-time data in sync with video clips and advanced AI profiling of players and teams. The tools include the new Game Center that provides valuable pre-game analysis and an AI assistant.
“With the help of AI-based tools, coaching staff no longer have to spend so much time on time-consuming analysis work – monitoring at the team and individual level becomes automated, thus leaving more time for coaching itself and interaction with the players,” says Marko Haverinen, Head of Physical Training at Tappara, the multiple-time champion of Liiga and a long-time partner of Wisesport.
Users of the Wisehockey platform have found the new practice recording and statistics tools particularly helpful. With these tools, teams get real-time video of exercises with a real-time data feed synced with video clips, can tag different types of drills, and receive summaries of practice from a selected timespan.
“We utilize Wisehockey’s AI-based exercise summaries in our daily practice. Every practice session and game is measured – with the training summary, we can pace the load of on-ice exercises in relation to games and ensure that the level of the exercises is comparable to the demands of the games,” Haverinen says.
Enriching entertainment with AI
The wider audience most likely encounters Wisesport data and technology via sports broadcasts, their favorite club’s social media or app, and on arena screens during a game night.
“To serve future consumers of ice hockey entertainment in the ways they want, we must be able to implement different ways to enjoy sports entertainment. [Automatically created] short video clips on social media, for example, are one way to reach new target audiences while also hooking existing target audiences even deeper into ice hockey entertainment,” says Jukka Sundquist, Chief Digital Officer at the Finnish Hockey League Liiga.
Wisesport’s real-time video clipping tool for creating automated content about game highlights has become a standard tool for many clubs’ social media teams not just in Liiga but in other partner leagues as well.
“The biggest use case is producing video clips during a match to be shared on social media. Previously, these clips were created entirely manually, and producing clips during the game was difficult,” Sundquist explains.
For instance, Liiga has set full automation for generating video clips of all the goals in the game with pre-set criteria. The new kind of video content also includes statistical data, such as the best scoring chances based on expected goals (xG) during a game.
Additionally, two leagues have already started using the brand-new Wisesport AI PTZ for main TV camera control which expands the range of Wisesport’s media services.
Wisesport’s new AI commentator, developed with a large language model (LLM), is ready to step into sports studios to become a memorable companion for human experts with exciting statistical insights about the game based on all available Wisesport data.
